The Head of Data Governance Unit is responsible for defining, leading, and maintaining the bank-wide data governance framework. The role ensures that data across the organization is well-governed, high-quality, compliant, and trusted for business, analytics, and regulatory purposes.

This position works closely with Business Units, IT, Data Engineering, Analytics, Risk, Finance, and Compliance teams to embed data governance into daily operations and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own enterprise data governance policies, standards, and processes

  • Establish clear data ownership and stewardship across data domains

  • Monitor data lineage, metadata management, data quality and compliance, identify issues, and drive remediation

  • Oversee data governance tooling (data catalog, metadata, lineage, data quality)

  • Ensure governance supports regulatory, audit, and risk requirements

  • Provide guidance to business and engineering teams on governance best practices

  • Lead and develop the Data Governance team (staffing, mentoring, performance)

  • Coordinate governance activities across strategic data initiatives

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, analytics, or software development

  • Hands-on experience with data governance, data quality, or enterprise data platforms

  • Strong understanding of modern data architectures and data management concepts

  • Experience working in complex, regulated environments (banking preferred)

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field

  • Clear and effective communication skills

  • Leadership mindset with a structured and pragmatic approach

  • Fluent in Georgian and English
